BOSCO’s CHILD RIGHTS FIRST SOCIETY (BCRFS) is a faith-based non-governmental organization that is established to support access to education for children, fighting stunting among children from poor families, promote economic empowerment for parents/guardian of targeted children to initiate and sustain income generating activities. This was thought of after assessing the needs of communities and families that were shuttered during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, leaving families in a dare financial need.
The economic empowerment of these families will lead to sustainability of the organization’s contribution by ensuring that, at later stage, parents/guardians will be empowered to cater for basic needs of their children.
To create a world where children are empowered to participate in the realization of their rights to education and economic support they need
To create spaces where children and vulnerable families are listened to and taken seriously in the exercise of their fundamental rights.
the program will mainly focus on educating children from vulnerable families that do not have access to education. The main areas of sponsorship will include; tuition fees, stipend, scholastic materials (books, pens, uniforms).
– the program will focus on supporting vulnerable families with basic needs such as soaps, construction of shelters, clothes and clean water among other things that they may need from time to time.
- Under this program we intend to reach out vulnerable families with no access to good health schemes and support them with community health insurance scheme (mutuelle de sante) in order to partner with the government in ensuring quality healthcare for all Rwandans. This will be done on an annual basis.
- This program aims at reaching out to vulnerable adolescents who could not continue with their education after pregnancy, by giving them a second chance to pursue their respective desired educational goals. We shall identify these young girls at the sector level and work with technical schools to enroll them into various vocational short-courses in order to equip them with relevant skills that are high in demand on the Rwanda’s job market. We are confident that vocational training would create employment for these girls and help them earn a descent income.
– the program will support women and youth with mental disorders with psychological-being through counseling, healing and deliverance.
- The program will also conduct advocacy and support dissemination of preventive campaigns towards sexually transmitted diseases and how the youth could avoid them through ABC strategies. It will also include counselling and psychological support to those that are positively living with the STDs.
Under this program, we shall offer legal support to vulnerable families and teen mothers so that they can have access to the justice right on time. This is because most of these families lack financial means to hire competent lawyers who could represent them in the courts of law yet they are less knowledgeable about court cases and proceedings.
- Under this program, we shall engage families, associations, industries, factories, schools and universities to be vigilant about protecting the environment in their business dealings. We shall engage universities in climate change related research into what needs to be done for continuous improvement and innovation in regard to Rwanda’s approach to climate change mitigation.
Thanks to BCRFS, my family has transformed. Before, we struggled to meet even our basic needs, but through their economic empowerment programs, I was able to start a small business. Today, I can afford to send my children to school, and they are thriving both academically and physically. BCRFS gave us hope, and I will forever be grateful.
The support we received from BCRFS is beyond what we could have imagined. My children now have access to quality education, something we could only dream of before. The school supplies and uniforms they provided took a huge burden off my shoulders. More than that, their focus on fighting malnutrition has ensured my children grow healthy and strong. I truly believe their future is brighter because of this organization.
Emily, a single mother
BCRFS gave us a second chance at life. After the 1994 Genocide, our community was shattered, and we were left without a means to support our families. Through their income-generating initiatives, I was able to rebuild my life. I can now provide for my children without constantly worrying about their next meal or school fees. BCRFS has empowered us as parents, and this change will impact generations to come.
